Mark Quartermaine - Managing Director, BT Public Sector
Mark Quartermaine is managing director of BT Public Sector, the part of BT Global Services that helps public sector bodies across the UK achieve network-enabled service transformation. The business has grown considerably in recent years and is now worth more than £1.4 billion per annum. Among his business’s many relationships with local government are BT's pioneering joint ventures with Liverpool City Council, Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council and two councils in Suffolk: Suffolk County Council and Mid Suffolk District Council. Within central government, Mark is responsible for BT's business with clients including Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs and the Department for Work and Pensions, as well as the Ministry of Defence and other defence and security agencies. Mark came to BT from Cable & Wireless in 2005. Prior to joining C&W, he was chief operating officer and a board member of NSB Retail Solutions, a FTSE 200 company he joined in 2001. There, his responsibilities included running the company's European business and its services globally. Mark's earlier career was spent at IBM, where he rose from systems engineer to be the worldwide director of marketing for IBM's retail division. In all, he spent 15 years at IBM, which he joined on graduating from Loughborough University in 1984. At IBM, he had also set up and run the company's object technology practice and been general manager of its European POS business.
