Ian Chapman-Banks is senior vice president of worldwide sales and marketing at Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing (Nasdaq: CHRT and SGX-ST: CHARTERED), one of the world's leading semiconductor foundries. Reporting directly to Chartered President & CEO Chia Song Hwee, Mr. Chapman-Banks is responsible for the company's global sales and marketing activities, strategic and business development, and customer support.
Mr. Chapman-Banks brings over two decades of experience to his role at Chartered, including 12 years in Asia leading businesses, building brands, guiding product strategy, and delivering sales results at some of the world's foremost electronics companies. As such, Mr. Chapman-Banks provides an end-user perspective that helps keep Chartered in tune with - and anticipating - the needs of the people and enterprises served by its customers.
Prior to joining Chartered in 2009, Mr. Chapman-Banks served as corporate vice president and general manager of the Asia mobile devices business of Motorola, Inc, leading the company's sales, customer support and strategy, and go-to-market efforts in the entire Asia-Pacific region. In the course of his time at Motorola, Mr. Chapman-Banks guided the enhancement of Motorola's brand and reputation across 17 markets, creating marketing programs acknowledged by the industry as some of the most innovative and effective in the region.
Prior to joining Motorola, Mr. Chapman-Banks was the brand & channel marketing director for Microsoft's Home and Entertainment Division in the Asia-Pacific region, setting up the division's regional headquarters in Hong Kong in 2002. He was subsequently responsible for formulating the group's strategy and organization design, and for recruiting a regional team to execute that strategy.
Prior to Microsoft, Mr. Chapman-Banks was the marketing director for Apple in Asia Pacific, where he helped build the company's brand in the region following Steve Jobs' return to Apple. He managed the company's advertising, marketing (online, direct, buzz and retail), collateral, and packaging in each of the region's markets. Mr. Chapman-Banks holds a bachelor of science degree (chemistry and computer science) from Sheffield Hallam University, England, and an master's degree in business administration from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. He resides with his family in Singapore.
